CALIF. INSURERS MUST COVER DOMESTIC PARTNERS: From 365Gay.com
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Monday signed the first of three major gay rights bills passed by the legislature last month. Schwarzenegger put his pen to the California Insurance Equality Act. The legislation amends the Insurance and the Health & Safety Codes to prohibit insurance providers from issuing policies or plans that discriminate against domestic partners. ... The Insurance Equality Act was sponsored by Assemblywoman Christine Kehoe (D-San Diego) and brings state insurance laws in line with the the domestic partnership law, which takes effect next year. ... The partnership law, which gives most of the rights and benefits of marriage which are permitted under state law, was upheld by a Sacramento judge last month. Yesterday, the conservative group which challenged the law said it would begin a recall effort against the judge. more |
