JUST MARRIAGE: Eve replies to Mary Lyndon Shanley

I approve of any article that points out the problems with treating marriage as a contract. But in a model of marriage based solely on liberty and (esp) equality, what happens to children, who are by necessity--not just convention--less free and more dependent? What happens to the fact that women and men face different risks and rewards in sex? (Contraception, despite all the advertising, has not yet erased these differences.) This piece, despite its virtues, doesn't really treat these (huge! obvious!) issues at all.
