Libertarians and Anarchists, what are you gonna do...

JS: ... it's crucial to it that the regulation of procreation and child-rearing be, not merely a major public purpose of marriage, but the purpose.

Keyword PUBLIC there, Julian. Yes, it is very true that marriage serves many purposes both public and private. The question at hand is which purpose(s) are worthy of State involvement?

Of course any good libertarian or anarchist will say emphatically "None!". But for the rest of us, it must certainly be for the children. Children need, deserve, and have a right to their own Mother and Father, and intact family units are the basis of a strong, free, and independent nation. If libertarians won'ts speak up for children who are being deliberatly abandoned by one parent or another, for essentially sexist reasons, then Republicans and Democrats must!

There are many reasons to reject libertarianism. Anarchy is only one of them.
